The highlight of my Memorial Day HAD to be the Can Am drivers autograph session. If you're not aware I collect 1/43 diecast models. And no Harriet, these are not just Matchbox toys, these are well crafted fully detailed pieces of art. After scanning the entry list for LRP I brought a select few models in hopes of grabbing some signatures on them.  I spent a good 30 minutes prior to the 1130 autograph session asking track workers and USRRC folks where it would be held--no one had a clue! I found the session about 5 minutes before it began and was relegated to the back of a 75 person line 8-(
As I got closer to the tent I could make out a few drivers and started rummaging through the bag of models I brought. *insert giddy feeling of a little kid here* There was Boris Said, Hans Stuck, Butch Leitzinger, Elliot Forbes Robinson, Andy Wallace,
James Weaver, Mark Simo et al (unfortunately Didier Theys and Fredy Lienhardt were not there?). As I made my way through the line the drivers signed complimentary LRP posters.

I gave a model of the Porsche GT1 to my friend Ron to have signed by Hans Stuck.   Hans took the model box and looked at it quizzically, as if he was recalling the experience of LeMans

in that car. Then he gently put it down on the table and asked where he could sign it! I piped up and said 'any where you want sir!' When I got to Hans I pulled out my Daytona and Sebring winning Porsche 911 GT2 that he co-drove. Upon seeing the model he looked at me, looked at the car, and then looked at me again and said "ahhhh YES!", then laughed with a twinkle in his eye. The drivers to either side of him laughed too. Just then, some sort of BMW muckety muck came over and scowled at the fact that I brought a Porsche for him to sign, I laughed and told him 'if BMW would license some of their cars to the model makers I'd have brought one!' He laughed and shrugged. All the drivers howled! (imagine this opportunity at a NASTYCAR or F1 race-NOT!)
